How to Use the Troubleshooting Guide

2 min read

The troubleshooting section helps you diagnose and fix the most common issues in the Content Tracker. Each article focuses on a single symptom and walks you through the exact steps to resolve it.

Start With the Symptom #

You don’t need to know the cause.
Look for the article that matches what you’re seeing:

  • Missing menu items
  • Slow or incomplete pasting
  • Validation or checkboxes disappearing
  • Duplicate ItemID + Version pairs
  • Dashboard not updating
  • Snapshot missing items

Each symptom has its own targeted fix.

Follow Steps in Order #

Troubleshooting articles use the same flow:

  • What the issue looks like
  • Why it happens
  • Steps to fix it
  • How to verify it’s resolved

Doing the steps in order avoids making the issue worse.

Use Admin Tools for Structural Problems #

Most issues come from:

  • Large pastes
  • Manual edits to system columns
  • Validation being overridden
  • Rows copied from another spreadsheet

When the problem affects layout, validation, checkboxes, or system behavior, use:

Content Tools → Admin → Setup / Repair Sheet

This fixes most structural issues in one go.

Use Refresh Options for Dropdown Problems #

If a dropdown list stops appearing or shows outdated values:

Content Tools → Refresh Options

This pulls fresh values from the Config tab and reapplies them everywhere.

Check Config for Reporting Issues #

If the dashboard or snapshot report looks empty or incorrect, the guide usually points you to the Config tab. Most reporting issues come from:

  • Missing or incorrect PeriodStart / PeriodEnd
  • Wrong PeriodDateKey
  • Filters hiding items
  • Incorrect snapshot folder or template IDs

The troubleshooting article tells you exactly which field to correct.

When to Reset #

If nothing else solves the issue:

Content Tools → Admin → Setup / Repair Sheet
Restores safe behavior without deleting content.

If you’re starting a new project:

Content Tools → Admin → Reset for New Project
Clears all rows but keeps Config and system structure.

When to Ask for Help #

Use the troubleshooting section when:

  • You’re unsure why something broke
  • Dashboard data doesn’t match sheet data
  • Snapshots are missing items
  • Dropdowns or checkboxes stop working
  • Version creation behaves unpredictably

If the issue works in:

  • a new spreadsheet
  • a new browser session
  • or new rows but not old ones

then the problem is isolated to your current file, and the guide will point you to the right fix.
